Food Photos
19th Apr 08I have recently had the chance to take the photos of various dishes for a new website.
I wanted to be able to show off fresh produce as well as actual dishes. The chef plated up a beautiful raw venison fillet, with carrots, cherry tomatoes and wild garlic garnish.
The 100mm macro lens was the lens for the job and I can now appreciate how well it can define colour and texture. I bought a new flash for the job as well, canon speedlite 430ex with diffuser, which proved a very worthy tool to have.
The fish course was scallops, sweet potato, cherry tomatoes again and something green...??? The chef also cooked a huge crab for the occasion and fresh muscles with sea weed. The colours were amazing, especially the scallop being bright orange!!!
For the desert it was a beautiful light & dark chocolate terrine with biscuit, with fresh raspberries, a chocolate twirl and raspberry coolie. The colours were simply terrific. The 100mm macro highlighted the colour from the raspberries perfectly!
I used the tripod quite alot yesturday so I could have a good fiddle with the av setting which was perfect for a totally sharp foreground which dissipated through the depth of the photo.
This has proved to be great experience and a real insight to food photography!
